(original release sheet:)
We’ve been holding out until we found our next voice. Always hoping to present a meaningful face, the Diaspora crew re-emerge in their new home base of New York City with yet another thoughtful contribution to the diverse musical canvas that has defined their efforts for over 7 years. Drawing on his French-African heritage, Jayhem (of Kojak and Kemit Sources fame) joins the family and channels Creole spirit, invoking a folk fable as his inspiration. His motivation, heartfelt and his artistry, intensely personal - we are all too happy to take this journey with him. From ‘go’, the canvas has filled up quickly with a killer Sweet Abraham remix and, despite trying to keep it under the radar, this gem will rock rooms both big and intimate. We present this package to you for both your body and your mind as a piece of uncompromising house music that simultaneously draws on the past and the present.
ORIGINAL MIX
Leftfield deeeeep in full effect. We were hooked on first listen – whether it’s the hypnotic chants, the haunting countermelodies or the bittersweet synth progressions, Jayhem conjures a genuine and unique mood here. Drawing on a wooden and organic sonic foundation, this really is a piece for the heads that invites comparison to emotive abstraction we’ve come to expect from the first class of deep. Featured on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide in 2006, we’ve known we’re onto something good.
SWEET ABRAHAM’S DEPTH CHARGE
Minimal tech with a classic shake and the drive of a freight train. Never failing to rumble the room, Abraham has really bowled us over with this one, evoking minimal precision without sacrificing the old school grit that has been and remains his signature. His use of Jayhem’s chant conjures an altered spirit, propelled by an unrelenting, driving bass that, quite frankly, we’ve kept on loop – infectious and it’s been kept carefully under wraps until now.
DEPTH CHARGE INSTRUMENTAL
Stripped right down to the bare essentials. Beats, bass and atmosphere for days.
